The history of the Hollister Presbyterian Church began on September 15, 1911, when a group of people in the new town of Hollister realized a church and Sunday School were needed. The contractor hired in 1915 to build the church was a Mr. Drumiller. The labor was furnished by the members and some of the townspeople. The stone building was intentionally designed to harmonize with downtown Hollister’s architecture. The first services were held in 1916. At the beginning of the new church, the ladies organized two church groups – the Ladies Guild which worked to raise funds to support the new church and a Missionary Society which was a Bible study group.
Since its inception, Hollister Presbyterian Church has truly been the community’s church. The support of the entire community was vital in getting the church organized and built. Links to schools and community organizations provide benefits to all. A century’s worth of parishioners have worshipped there. Many things have changed during since 1915 century but one thing remains constant; God was, is, and will be with us.
